Sometimes if you don’t laugh, you just might cry

Can you believe how long it’s been since we’ve posted on here?  That must mean that we’re 2 busy HS moms!

Now that we’ve got the perfect curriculum for #1, I’m able to breathe again!  It is 12:30 and he’s been finished with school for about 45 min!  I had him do some of tomorrow’s work today.  Hubs is off tomorrow and we’ll probably run errands most of the day.  I’m hoping to get the desktop back sometime this weekend.  After we get the ‘puter back, I’ll be asking for the impossible.  I desperately want the laptop and desktop networked to each other.  Of course Hubs says this can’t be done because one is XP and the other is Vista.

I guess I should post an update to my marriage situations, considering the past few posts from me!  Since the Monday that I went to Hubs and told him that I FORGIVE him and told him that I AM PRAYING for him things have been so much smoother.  I know there are a few people out there praying for him as well.  Isn’t he power of prayer amazing?  He still has his moments, but he always has and I’m sure he always will.  Granted, he probably thinks I have my moments also ;)

How has school been going for y’all?

Ok, bear with me because I would like to add links and just don’t know how to do it. So….you will have to google everything to see it!

We are going with Math-U-See. We are using English for Life:The Madsen Method, and Konos, Volume 1, for the rest!

Should be exciting! I am having a hard time not breaking into it already! We have 6 weeks of school left though and I pretty much have them mapped out, so we won’t need to use the new stuff, I just want to!

Creative Day March 6, 2007

What would you do if you were given a whole day to be creative? You have legos, kinex, erector sets, paints, other art supplies, rubber stamps, tons of papers, and your imagination to guide you. You have a stocked pantry. Your only rules are that you must do it “on your own” and clean up your own mess. You may watch tv for an hour today. You may read.

That is homeschool for us today! There is a digital camera where they can take pictures of their creations! We are trying today as an experiment. I checked a homeschooling book out of the library and it suggested something similar, a “Do what you want day” and I couldn’t be that crazy!!! I had to put some perameters down so I would feel comfortable! I will let ya know how it goes!

Encouragement January 29, 2007

I found 2 posts today that really hit home.  You know Hubs and you know how ’southern’ he thinks.  I’ve really been letting his attitude bring me down.  But these two posts just seem to help me remember that I can’t do it all.

This one is to us ~ MOMS

And this one is to Non-Homeschoolers who choose to judge me, although they haven’t walked my road before.

I think both are just perfect.  I don’t think I’d ever get Hubs to read them.  If I did manage to get him to listen while I read them, I don’t think he’d agree!  He let me know he wasn’t happy with the fact that #1 only did Math and Handwriting today.  BUT, the kitchen, LR, and bath are clean and ALL of the laundry is DONE, AND we spent 2 hours trying to get our taxes done, AND I walked an HOUR on the treadmill!

I’ve got a massive headache, its so bad that I’m having trouble focusing on objects!  I think I’ll just go ahead and go to bed now.  Maybe I’m just tired, #3 kept me up most of the night last night, he was thirsty, then he didn’t want to sleep in his bed, then he  had to go potty, then he was thirsty again, then he came back for a flashlight…..I just didn’t get much of a substantial block of sleep!

Questions that have been plaguing me January 10, 2007

Filed under: Family, Home School, Home Schooling — yittletinies @ 7:52 pm

Do we go with a curriculum and home school service that sends out a test, places student, designs curriculum, and keeps records? Or do we go it alone?

Do we go on an educational vacation or a fun one?? Not that educational ones wouldn’t be fun, but do we do the totally fun vacation or try to hit a destination where we could do museums and such?

Ok… Gonna do my own post so I can see how easy it is…or difficult! Thanks for getting this together for us!

I am very glad that we have finally made the decision to home-school. Life is crazy and hectic and this may make it more, but how can we really tell if we never even try. I try not to think for God, but I feel like this is where he wants us to be right now and we have just been ignoring him. Ever get that feeling like you are being told to do something and then wonder if it is really God telling you or you are imagining it? I get that a lot. I try to be open to listen, then I try not to doubt what I am being told. Very hard for me!!!

I’m so nervous January 4, 2007

Filed under: Home Schooling — avanna @ 11:33 am

I’m going to a ’smoothing the way’ meeting tonight.  I’m quite nervous.  I don’t really like meeting new people.  I worry that I don’t make a good first impression.  The meeting will have new and experienced home schoolers.  I want any and all info I can get!  I’m not sure if they have topics or speakers or if everyone just sits and chats.  There is contact info, so I’ll try to email the lady today and see if there is anything I need to bring.  My mom is keeping #s 1&3, my sis is keeping #2.

I didn’t remind Hubs about it this morning before he left.  I don’t know what we’ll do for dinner!  I won’t get home until after 9!  I wonder if there is any way he’ll go and get #2 after he gets off work.  Doubt it, but I will ask anyway!

I told my sis that I am HS, and that #2 was going back to public and she said that she was very happy that they weren’t in the charter school anymore.

Today Is The Day January 2, 2007

The boys, Hubs and I went to the used home school book store today and bought A Beka books for #1!  Can you believe it?  I’ve still got to order a workbook from the website, but we got 3 subjects for $60.  Not too bad.  I am thinking about doing unit studies next year.  This year, I’ve got some catching up to do!  We went ahead and got 5th grade math.  I’ll go through that and see what he knows!  We can always order 6th grade when he’s finished the 5th!

My hours have been increased at work.  I’m there at 8:30 every morning.  I’ll be there til 10:30 or 11.  I’ll be getting about 10 hours a week!  I get paid every other Thursday.  The opposite weeks that Hubs gets paid!!!  That is going to be nice.  By the second week, we are always broke.  This way there will be a little bit of a cushion!

Home school basketball starts Jan 9th!  I think we’ll get #1 in that.  He’ll like it, I just hope the kids aren’t too competitive, #1 isn’t that great at sports, but loves them!

I’ve got to get a schedule going.  I’m very excited about this!  It’s going to be hard to enroll #2 in public school.  Especially this one!  I know his character will make it though.  He doesn’t let people walk all over him.  He will stand up for himself.  Which may create different problems on its own!!

I asked #1 tonight what he thought about our decision to HS.  He told me that he was happy about it and that he had been praying every night that we’d HS him!

Off to try to make a schedule!
