Sometimes if you don’t laugh, you just might cry

What A Day January 31, 2007

Filed under: Daily Life, Home School, Kids — avanna @ 3:12 pm

We had quite a full day today.  I took today off of work to take #3 to his Well Child check up.  That appt was at 8:30, then I had a dentist appt at 11 and #1 had his at 12.  That left us leaving the dentist at 1 which gave us just enough time to run through Chic-Fil-A for lunch and make it to the library by 1:30 for Book Club.  I left the house at 7:50 and returned home at 3!

Book Club was very fun today!  Today we just did Speed Stacking.  I went ahead and bought 2 sets of cups for the boys, #3 will just get some plain SOLO cups.  A lady in the group was selling the cups w/a DVD for $13, I didn’t think that was too expensive.  The kids were separated between those who know/have stacked before and those who are new to the concept.  We fell into the latter group.  So we went to another room at the library and got a lesson!  I think #1 had a good time!  I actually saw him smile, and no one was laughing at him!

Now we are home and the house really needs my attention!  I’ve got about 3 hours before I need to be at church and after church I’m meeting Hubs at the carwash.  So I’ve got quite a bit to do in the next 3 hours!!  dishes, wash jeans, make beds, sweep/mop kitchen, sweep LR, wipe down bathroom, thaw chicken, FORCE a 3y/o to rest, home work w/#2, Math w/#1, oh yeah, and waste time on the ‘puter!

I found 2 posts today that really hit home.  You know Hubs and you know how ’southern’ he thinks.  I’ve really been letting his attitude bring me down.  But these two posts just seem to help me remember that I can’t do it all.

This one is to us ~ MOMS

And this one is to Non-Homeschoolers who choose to judge me, although they haven’t walked my road before.

I think both are just perfect.  I don’t think I’d ever get Hubs to read them.  If I did manage to get him to listen while I read them, I don’t think he’d agree!  He let me know he wasn’t happy with the fact that #1 only did Math and Handwriting today.  BUT, the kitchen, LR, and bath are clean and ALL of the laundry is DONE, AND we spent 2 hours trying to get our taxes done, AND I walked an HOUR on the treadmill!

I’ve got a massive headache, its so bad that I’m having trouble focusing on objects!  I think I’ll just go ahead and go to bed now.  Maybe I’m just tired, #3 kept me up most of the night last night, he was thirsty, then he didn’t want to sleep in his bed, then he  had to go potty, then he was thirsty again, then he came back for a flashlight…..I just didn’t get much of a substantial block of sleep!

Cleansing January 27, 2007

Filed under: Daily Life — avanna @ 7:15 am

I ordered a cleanse through Frontier.  I am starting today.  I’m a bit nervous.  I’ve never cleansed or detoxed before, have you?  Here lately, I’ve had trouble drinking water, well, pretty much anything other that tea in the morning.  However, I have already had 16oz of water and a big cup of tea!(all within 30 min)  In the directions for the cleanse it talks about drinking water after you take the pills.  They say that you could choke!  Yep, that’ll do it!  Just thinking that they will get stuck in my throat makes me want to just keep drinking!!

So now I’m off to eat my breakfast.  They do have suggestions on what to eat during the cleanse.  Luckily I’ve got some of the stuff they suggest!  So today I’ll have some yogurt with some granola….both organic of course!

Wish Me Luck!

Confessions of a stressed out Wife and Mother January 26, 2007

Ok, I think its time for a bit of a confession.  I’m hoping my mischievous plan isn’t backfiring on me!

Last school year when I heard about the charter school I thought it would be a really good idea.  I did some research and decided that maybe it wasn’t the right choice for us.  From what I could tell, the teachers did teach, but just kinda try to keep order.  I knew the kids were just given copied papers and were told to ‘do it’.  I also knew how far the school was from my house.  At this time I realized that #1 should be home schooled.  I kept talking to Hubs about it and he wouldn’t hear my reasoning.  With all that #1 was going through in school I knew I couldn’t send him back to the public school.  So I kept on promoting the charter school to Hubs, knowing that he’d get sick of all the miles I was putting on the cars and the lack of interest the teachers had and give in to my home schooling pleas.

Every week, (sometimes more often) Hubs would complain about the school and I’d agree with him.  I’d let him know that I could always home school.  There were times that he’d tell me that #1 would learn more just sitting at home watching TV than he does at school!  I’d of course agree with him!  Knowing that it wouldn’t take much more to convince Hubs that we needed to HS.

So, now I’ve got my way……Finally.  I’m curious though, if my plan may have backfired a bit.  I can’t get #1 to do work at all.  It seems the last semester has left its mark on his brain.  Now I’m having to re-train him to do his work.  I can send him to his room to do his division and it will take him 4 hours to do 10 problems.  Well, not anymore.  When he doesn’t do his work in a timely manner, I spank him.  I just don’t know what else to do, but I know I’ve got to do something.  Hubs says we aren’t doing any better than the charter school.  We really haven’t gotten anything accomplished.  It just seems like everyday all we do for school is fight about the fact that he’s not doing it.  Then Hubs comes home and the 3 of us fight some more.  Why can’t the kid just do his work?  Why do I have to spank him and make him cry before he’ll sit down and do it?  Once he is spanked and crying, he can get his work done FAST!

I think I’m training him to do his work, but in all reality, am I training him to ony respond to painful inflictions.

I went to Mardel this afternoon to get #1 some paper that has the dotted line down the middle of the lines.  Paper like that is really helping us RE-teach him how to write.  We actually found some paper made by the “Handwriting With Out Tears” people.  I’m thinking that this is even better, since it’s what he’s learning on!  While we were there, I was looking at their T-Shirts, I really like shirts that say something and they have some cute sayings.  I mentioned to Hubs that I’d like one, and he asked how much they were, I looked at the tag and they were $23!!  That is WAY too much so I started to walk away, when Low and Behold, What did my wandering eyes see? 75% off sign!!!  The sign said they were 6.99 so I got 2 and got #1 one also.  When we checked out they rang up for $1 less!

One shirt is red and has a stick figure with horns and under it says “satan is bad” then has a drawing of a stick figure wearing a tunic and a beard and under it says “Jesus is good”  Then under that in bigger letters, it says “Be like Jesus”       Cute, HUH??

The other shirt is gray heather and in black letters it says “Friends don’t let friends go to Hell.” and under that in smaller letters it has “Rev. 20:15″ and “2 Peter 3:9″ and in the middle of those it has a stick figure with a sad face in fire!

I also found a reading comp book for $3, so #1 is in his room working on that.  Actually he’s had plenty of time, so he may need to be reminded about what he’s supposed to be doing………I wish he’d just do his dang work!

I personally don’t think this sounds like me! I do like the text books! Especially the ones that have everything worked out for me!! I don’t think that I’m as structured as Hubs thinks I should be! And I do try to think outside of the box, there are very many different ways to look at things!

I’m So Smart January 23, 2007

Filed under: Daily Life, household duties — avanna @ 8:34 am

Yesterday I made a Chore Chart for each day of the week!  This took me most of the day.  Because, I didn’t have a clue how to make a chart!  I finally figured it out, and I’m sure there is an easier way to do it, but I DID IT!  I have a column for each child and one for me, then I have rows with what needs to be done.  It will be nice to have a list to go by.  No more trying to decide what I should do, then putting it off until its too late to do anything.  Also, I’ve got everything spread out between 5 days and it doesn’t look so daunting!   #1 has the most to do out of the 3, but he’s also the oldest and he’s also home all day with me!  #2 does still have chores, and he stripped his bed this morning and put his sheets in the laundry room, he’ll also get to help me make his bed when he gets home from school.  #3 just has to help me or #1 for now.  I’ve never really had him do chores, so I’ll let him follow us around and learn, then he’ll be getting his own chores!!  What does your youngest do?  Anything specific?

Notice there isn’t a column for Hubs?  We had a bit of a tiff over the weekend, maybe that will be another post!

Still Sick! January 23, 2007

Filed under: Daily Life, Family, Kids — avanna @ 6:47 am

This time its the 3 yo! He got sick last Thursday and was doing pretty good on Sunday, but yesterday he was HOT! He slept most of the day (10:30-4). When he woke up, he had wet his bed. I got some jello and crackers down him. He fell back asleep around 6:30. Hubs got home at 7:45 and we woke him up and had him drink some soup. Hubs felt him and was amazed at how hot he was. Then he asked me when the last time I gave him motrin was and I told him that I hadn’t given him any. Personally I feel that a fever is the result of the body working to heal itself. Since #3 was sleeping, he wasn’t in any discomfort while the healing process was happening, so why give the child meds if they aren’t needed? Yes, I did give him motrin before I put him in bed. I wanted him to be able to sleep as long as he could. I think a good nights rest is very important when they are sick! #3 woke me up at 5 this morning wanting something to drink. He was warm again, but went right back to sleep. I’ve got to work today as does Hubs, so I’ll give him some motrin about an hour before we leave, but I bet he still sleeps when we get there! I’ll only have to work the second hour, for the class. That is a blessing in itself!!!

Off to start the boys day!!

Hello Modern Times January 19, 2007

Hubs and I went and bought a dryer today!  It’s not the cheapest, but it’s close.  I LOVED one at Home Depot, with a stainless steel drum, but they didn’t have any in stock and I didn’t want to wait until next week.  (When the sun would be back out and I could hang them out!)  So we found one at Lowe’s and it was a lot like another one at HD, but the serial #’s were a few #’s off, so it wasn’t the same, but the lady said she’d give us 10% off any way!!  So that was the last of the Christmas money.  Hubs and I are meeting my daddy at the store here in a bit and he’s going to come out and help Hubs put it in!
